Hi everyone and welcome to the ultimate total body medicine ball workout!  Forget about spending thousands of dollars on personal home gym equipment, personal trainers or gym memberships.  Workouts like the total body medicine ball workout can get you in great shape without spending all that money and can be done in the comfort of your own home!

The medicine ball total body workout is a quick workout that you can do at home and is very effective at helping you burn fat, build muscle and muscular endurance and get you that ripped, lean athletic body you are looking for.  This is a circuit training workout so you are going to want to do one exercise and quickly move on to the next exercise.  The workout is comprised of 7 exercises with high reps, but in order to do it, you are going to need a medicine ball.

Advanced participants can use a 12 to 15 pound medicine ball while beginners or intermediates can use a 4, 6 or 8 pound medicine ball.  The goal of this workout is to complete it as fast as possible, without sacrificing good form.  Therefore you are going to want to move from exercise to exercise, taking as few breaks as possible and ideally taking none at all.

This type of circuit training is the best and most efficient way to workout if you want to get ripped, lean, muscular in order to build a solid athletic physique.  Not only does it make you look good, its helps you athletically as well and you will notice that your endurance in sports will significantly increase.

Everyone makes mistakes. Unfortunately, trainers seem to make a lot of them while striving for their fitness goals. And that always leads to frustrated exercisers. Use these tips to help you avoid common mistakes.

1. Thinking The Longer Your Workout Is, The Better It Will Be

Unfortunately, the human body just doesn't work like that. If you spend literally hours working out, you aren't doing your body any favors. Especially if you are just starting out. A training session should last no longer than an hour. Any longer, and all you are doing is forcing your body to turn to its muscle for energy. This is slow down your fitness progress significantly.

2. Not Doing Any Cardio

Even if you just want good looking muscles, regular cardio is a must. It will help burn fat, and make those muscles appear really defined as they develop. But more than that, regular cardio has wonderful health benefits. It can lower your cholesterol, help your respiratory and cardiovascular system, and give you a lot of energy.

3. Doing Too Much Cardio

Unless you want to run a marathon, there is such a thing as doing too much cardio, especially if you are looking to build muscle. Spending an entire hour doing intense cardio will force your body to turn to its muscles for fuel. If you look at the physique of professional long distance runners you will notice that they all have very little muscle mass. Keep your cardio session brief, but at a very high intensity level.

4. Lifting Too Much Weight

Do you want to be weightlifter or do you want to get a nice looking body? If it's the latter, you really shouldn't care how much weight you are lifting as much as whether or not you are lifting the right amount of weight for you. Lifting too much weight as a lot of dangers associated with it. At the end of a set, you usually start cheating if you are lifting too much weight. It also carries with it the extra risk of injury, which can slow your progress significantly, not mention hurt a lot.

5. Eating Too Little Protein

Most trainers who try to cut out as much fat from their diet as possible also cut out an essential nutrient for building muscle: protein. Really, most personal trainers shouldn't be scared of fat. Dietary fat is necessary for a healthy and well-rounded diet. You just have to make sure you know where those fats are coming from.

6. Using a lot of "Gear" while weightlifting

I know, I know. You spent money on those wrist straps and that weightlifting belt so you had better use them, right? Well, not if you really want to get in shape. For a lot of exercises a belt will be nothing but a crutch. It will help support your midsection, which means that you don't work those areas. What kind of gear you use should be selected under the guidance of a fitness professional.

A mixture of boxing punches and martial arts kicks, Tae-Bo is fun and easy. One of the best elements of this two-tape set is that the first tape (which is 40 minutes long), Tae-Bo: Instructional, lays out the movements you need to successfully complete a workout. Once you've mastered the steps, you won't have to fast-forward through half the tape to get to the workout, nor will your workout be slowed down by the repeated lessons. After you feel comfortable with the movements (and they're really quite easy to follow; nothing too complicated to trip you up), you're ready to move on to Tae-Bo: Basics, a 27-minute workout (5 minutes of warm-up, 18 minutes of Tae-Bo, and 4 minutes of cool-down) that will have your heart pounding and your body sweating. The only downside to this tape is the less-than-exciting music. Blanks, a seven-time World Martial Arts champion, is a superb instructor, providing encouragement and careful instruction (if you don't know by the end of the tape to hold in your stomach, that's no one's fault but your own). Not only is Tae-Bo great exercise for all levels, but the punches and kicks are wonderful for working out stress and aggression. Half the room does lower-intensity moves; the other uses higher steps and higher-intensity techniques. The teaching technique is excellent: a pattern is taught on the floor before taking it up on the step. One participant does the routines totally without the step to guide beginners or others who don't feel comfortable using the step. The patterns never get very complex, but they are varied enough to keep you interested and energized, and you can adjust your step height to make the workout harder if you wish. The Callanetics video itself is dated. 1986 I do believe is the original publishing date. There is no fancy stage production, no fancy clothes and extremely low key, soft, meditative music. I am not thrown off by this and as long as I enjoy something, it does not matter to me. I have always done Pilates and instead of giving me energy afterwards, I was usually so relaxed I would go straight to bed. I can tell that this video will do the same for me. I take time for myself and let myself relax... as this is also highly recommended by the instructor herself, Callan Pickney.

What's the number one excuse women give for not exercising? "Not enough time."

Whether you are a student, mom, career woman, grandma, or any combination of these, chances are that you don't take enough time for yourself. You give your time to your husband, children, friends, employer, your home, and give yourself the leftovers. The problem is, there isn't much time left over. That's why so many women are finding 30-minute exercise programs to be the answer they are looking for.

"I joined because I can get my whole workout done in half an hour" said Deverl Shippy, a member at Pick Up The Pace in Nampa. "At a regular gym, you have to wait for the machines you want and end up spending an hour and a half, or longer, before you feel like you did anything. Thirty minutes fits my schedule much better."

Our doctors tell us we should exercise, and we know we should, but the idea of heading to the gym for an hour or two just isn't feasible for most of us. And if we try to develop a program at home, we find too many distractions. After five minutes on the treadmill, we remember the load of clothes in the washer waiting for the dryer. The floor needs to be mopped. The dishwasher should be emptied. The baby starts crying. Dinner should be started. Your list goes on and on.

Most health clubs offering a 30-minute workout are similar in that they provide a combination of strength training and aerobic exercise, referred to as 'circuit training'. In thirty minutes you will work all the major muscle groups in your body, as well as improving your cardiovascular health. This is good news for busy women.

The circuit consists of hydraulic machines and aerobic stations arranged in a circular pattern. Participants rotate around the circle, moving to the next station when prompted by a cue CD. There is no designated starting point or time. You join the circuit whenever you arrive, and exit the circuit when you have completed your workout.

The half-hour workout will burn between 411 and 824 calories, depending on the effort you put into it. In addition to the calories burned each time you do the workout, you are improving your metabolism by adding lean muscle tissue, which will help your body burn more fat and keep it off.

But time isn't the only benefit to the women's only club format.

"I feel comfortable with the all-women atmosphere" said Shontel Jarvis of Nampa. "The camaraderie between the ladies makes it fun. I don't feel like I need to impress anyone. I can come after just getting out of bed and they're still glad to see me." Shontel is happy with the results she's seeing as well. In less than three months, she's dropped 28 pounds and has lost 19 inches. "The benefits of exercise are going to last me a lifetime."

The half-hour program is enough for most women. Those who want more are encouraged to exercise longer or supplement their routine with additional cardio programs such as walking. As always, before starting any exercise plan, consult with your physician.
