Better than expected
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Previous reviews were good; based on them I made my purchase and was not disappointed. Actually, I was pleasantly surprised. Drilled a couple hole, installed it and was using it right away. I almost screwed up and over-tighten as the direction warned me not to do: DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN! I barely was able to loosen mine back up to test out the lower installation for sit-ups, but I’ve decided it was not worth it as I’ve discovered bicycle crunches which are much better on your body and a work out that is much more rewarding.
Using it everyday (well, almost) and am my upper body strength is significantly improving. I highly recommend this item for it’s quality and price.

This is exactly what you need for a chin-up bar to put in a doorway. It comes with easily-installed brackets to hold the bar in place; the length of the bar adjusts gradually in a screw-like motion to fit into the doorway; and it is cheap. DO NOT use the bar without the brackets, as other reviewers have noted.
The bar also comes with two foam grips. The grips are nice, and helps you hang on until the end of the set, especially if (like me) your grip fails before your back and forearm muscles. I haven’t had grips on my previous chin-up bars, and the grips definitely help. The foam will probably wear out in a year or so, depending on how much you use the bar. I think the grips can’t be replaced, and then you’ll probably have to use gloves as the polished chrome surface of the bar is really too slick to hold on to for long. Or you could just buy a new bar with fresh grips, as this thing is really cheap.
Now go get pumped up.

new bars suck. read the dates of the reviews
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
i did my research and read the reviews about this bar. i guess i should’ve looked at the dates of the reviews as well. the newer reviews complain about the new brackets that screw into the doorway. these are square brackets with tabs on the side and DO NOT fit in standard doorways. there are little tabs that are off to the side of the brackets that secure the bar and keeps it from spinning. these are great and all, but they suck if you want to close the door. do not buy this product if you want to close the door after you install it, heck, don’t buy the product at all. try something else. the picture that is in the description is old and is not what you will receive.

I’m impressed with the construction of the bar and it provide a good range of motion. My only complaint is the screws that came with this bar had cheap heads that rounded off when I first tried to screw it into my doorframe.

I’m satisfied with this chin up bar. The included screws are quite soft, so be sure to drill large enough holes and screw in screws slowly to prevent stripping of the heads.

Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The chin-up bar is great. the construction is well built. The only thing I can think of that would be a problem is if you lost the fabric peices that helps your grip because the bar itself is hard to hang on to, too slippery. I love this bar though. I use it for everything. I can do many exercises with it.

Great Stuff
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I haven’t read any of the other reviews, so I’m not sure what everyone else thinks of it.
My simple review is that this thing works. It’s not really that hard to devise a good chin-up/pull-up bar but from what I’ve seen at my friends’ houses, not a lot of people get it right.
However, this one works. I believe I got it around christmas time ’06 and it’s worked wonderfully ever since. It’s right in the doorframe by my bedroom and it’s installed without the screw things. I weigh anywhere from 150 to 170 pounds throughout the year (I’m a senior that does wrestling, track, and crew, so my weight really does fluctuate that much) and I’ve never felt it slip.
The black foam pads are great too. They’re still pretty much intact.
I really can’t think of anything else to say, except that you can’t find a better chin-up/pull-up bar, so buy this.

Defective
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I basically payed for a metal bar. The product was defective, having only on piece of metal. This meant that it did not telescope and only stayed one size, about as wide as me. It was too small to fit in any doorframe, since the size was not adjustable.
Do not get this product.
I got a bar from Sport’s Authority and it works fine. And if it breaks, I can always take it back unlike this bar.

Not same as the old model
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought one in 2006 and it was the one in the picture with the round mounting heads that nicely hides the screws, and the padding was thick and comfortable. The new one with the hexagon shape mount sucks, it now has thin padding that is wrapped on by velcrose. The mounting pieces on the new model isn’t totally flat and doesn’t flush against the door frame. The uncovered mount also doesn’t hide the screws and very unsightly. I was impressed with the original product and was buying another to mount upstairs. The company has cheapened their product to save a few bucks but they have absolutely lost me as customer.

Sturdy, Simple, Inexpensive and… Interesting…
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The reviews here are correct– this is a STURDY bar. Shockingly so. It’s also SIMPLE to mount. And yes, the obvious, it’s INEXPENSIVE. But that’s not what I find especially INTERESTING about this bar. Here is: because of an inherent characteristic of this simple design, you receive a greatly increased forearm workout while doing pull-ups. This bar, in order to fit in varying door frame sizes, is designed to extend when twisted in one direction and to shorten when twisted the other direction. However, when you’re doing a pull-up, you don’t want the bar to roll (or twist) or your fingers will roll off. To prevent the rolling of the bar, your forearm muscles need to work extra hard to maintain the proper wrist stance. At first I found this annoying. It made the pull-ups significantly more difficult, and I wanted to work my back and biceps, not my forearms. But with a little patience and fortitude, this bar proved to increase my pull-up strength in ways I could’ve never planned. I strongly recommend this bar… especially to climbers.

I have nothing to say besides the GoFit Chin-Up Bar is an excellent workout equipment because it allows you to work out otherwise unworkable muscle groups without membership at a gym. Combine these with a set of dumbells and you can hit virtually every muscle group desired. The only problem I had with it was that I have zero access to a powerdrill. But I believe it is safe to have the design require a powerdrill anyway.

Ok well I used to do pull ups in my garage on a self made pull up bar… it worked great but I always had to go outside to do them, and now that winter is coming… it’s not practical.
So I looked for an in-home bar, and I’ve read many reviews before deciding on this one. I must say it’s better than I expected. I use this bar with P90X. It is extremely steady due to the new hexagonal bracket design on each side… this prevents the bar from rotating/spinning unlike the previous circular design… and it does not shake left or right even if you try to shake it. I also feel very safe using it because the brackets that hold it are secured with 10 screws total. No way they’d all break at once… and the fact that the bar is steel also helps releave my mind lol. Says it can support 400 lbs… I believe it. Another thing is, the soft paddings can be moved and placed anywhere on the bar, so you can do wide grip pull ups/chin ups or close grip or anything in between.
It’s great that it can extend into the right length for your doorway, so you know it will fit as long as your doorway is within the range the company provided. The toughest part probably was the set up (and I think this is where most of the negative comments came from)… had to call my uncle for help. He set it up in about 10 minutes. I did do all the measurments before he came and had it all drawn out on the doorway… all he had to do was drill it in. Once you’re done setting up though, you’ve got nothing to worry about. I personally never removed it ever since it was set up. I’m 6’2″ and I never hit it with my head, nor do I try to avoid it. It’s only 3 inches below the top of the doorway. Not a big obstruction.
I am very pleased with it. I no longer have to leave the house while doing my workouts. It’s right here in my room, everytime I walk by it I do a few pull ups. Perfect product.

So far this bar has been great. It is very sturdy and comfortable to grip. You really do need a very solid doorway to drive the screws into, but if you’re careful to set it up properly, you shouldn’t have any trouble. One disadvantage is that the bar can untwist during using it, so you simply have to make sure it is securely twisted into place every so often. Overall, one of the best chin-up bars on the market.

Better Quality than I Had Anticipated
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We bought the GoFit Chin-Up Bar for our two young sons for Christmas, so we could give them a place indoors from which to swing, hang and flip. The bar is of exceptional quality materials with tension so strong that my husband and I can hang from it without the brackets. We have been able to move it easily to different heights and to different doorways and have never had it slip so much as a centimeter when the boys swing on it. I would recommend this product.

Satisfied with the purchase
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I am satisfied with the purchase, there were a lot of reviews that talked about how the company used cheaper items etc. and alot of people are not satifisfied with the product etc
Before, buying this product, look at what you firstly have available home, if you got a wooden door frame or a concrete door frame greater than 25″ but less than 36″, then this product is suitable for you
I have a concrete door frame, i used my hilti drill and wall plugs to install the brackets (with the screws supplied – people just take your time, keep your screwdriver or drill straight and the screws go in flush without rounding of the heads – you just gotta know how to use the things…. don’t go saying the screws are cheap….blah blah blah…..know the proper way to use them), make sure and use all five screws, once installed there has been absolutely no problem in its use
They even sent an extra pair of brackets so you can install this other set at the base of the door frame to do push ups and you can also lock your feet when doing certain types of abdominal exercises, i have been using the product with P90X an no problems yet
Working like an absolute charm.
I gave fours stars because of incorrect advertising, the product that you see in the picture is not what you will receive – but the application is the same however.

The product works fine but there are some errors in the product description as well as the instructions that come with it. The description says that it is for doorways 24″ to 32″ and that there are different brackets for chin ups and sit ups. The product actually fits doorways 28″ to 36″. All four brackets are exactly the same.
The instructions tell you to place the bottom of the brackets 3″ from the top of the doorway. This is too close. You can’t get the bar in and out. You need another inch or so.

I put this up on my doorway and it’s great. You do have to use screws (they have space for about 5 on each side) but you can cover/fill those later on pretty easily with putty and paint. The bar itself is really comfortable and can hold alot of weight (atleast 300).

Quality product but not a substitute for a self-standing pullup bar
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I bought this bar because of the excellent reviews and because I wanted to be able to do pull ups in my home. The bar is very sturdy and the grips are comfortable. It was easy to install, you just screw some brackets into your door frame. The problem is that you can’t really do an effective push up unless you are 5′ tall. I mounted it about 4″ from the top of the door. At 6′ tall, I have to bend my knees to do a pull up, then have to worry about hitting my head on the top of the door jamb. It was uncomfortable and I stopped using after a couple days, because I was exerting too much effort into trying to stay out of the way of the door jamb or keep my feet off the floor.
I don’t think this is a problem with this bar, but with almost all pull up bars mounted this way. I would highly recommend that people over 5′ tall look for a door-mounted bar that is pushed out and up from the door frame rather than one that mounts on the inside. Either that, or a full-standing pull up bar.
EDIT – 10/9/09 – After giving this bar another try with the P90X Extreme Home Fitness DVDs, I like it a lot more than I used to and wish I could bump up my rating to three stars. I found that if I mounted the bar very high up, about 1″ from the top of the door frame, it works a lot better. You just have to get used to bending your knees. Additionally, it helps to mount it as close to the end of one side of the door frame as well (as opposed to directly in the middle). That way I do not have to concentrate on clearing my head from the top of the door. It is also nice that I can leave it in my door frame and it is pretty much out of the way and not as the bars you mount on the outside of doors. That’s convenient since I can knock out a few pullups whenever I want without having to setup a bar in the doorway and then find a place to store it when I’m done.
It still has faults though. The screws it came with broke easily and I had to replace them with heavier machine screws (do NOT use wood screws for this!). Also, the grips can be moved, but not easily, and not while the bar is mounted. Once the grips are in position they are going to stay there unless you put some effort into sliding them down. It would be nice if I could move them because trying to do “wide” pullups by holding onto the metal bar hurts my hands.
So finally, I want to say I no longer think this is a bad pullup bar, but I wouldn’t really recommend it either. If you have the right door frame for it, I think the Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar – Extreme Edition gives you a lot more versatility.

Received the bar…appeared to be good quality. However, the brackets are too large for the inside of a normal (modern) doorway without removing the center trim-stop piece. I have looked into one other brand and found it to have the same problem. It’s not a problem if you don’t mind cutting away part of the door jamb to make space for the width of the brackets.

It keeps me from being a lazy bum in my off seasons. Holds a lot of weight and good for sit ups if u put it at the bottom of your door (dont recommend keeping there or you will ultimately fall) but i would not recommend doing upsidown situps with it because it does not always stay up. I tried it a couple times and the first time it worked but the second time it fell and i had a pretty nasty fall on my neck. No damage thank god.
im giving it four stars because it betrayed me on the upsidedown situps, but if that had not happened it would be an easy 5

You HAVE to do Pull-Ups if you want to be strong, sexy, and stable
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Pull-Ups are a MUST to a strong, sexy, and stable body. They are the best exercises for your upper body strength, especially your back, lats, and biceps.
There are so many variations of pull-ups you can do, from chin ups to pull-ups, from narrow grip to wide grip, and from middle to side.
If you live near a park, just use those natural hanging surfaces to do your pull-ups. If you don’t have access to anything sturdy that you can hang onto, then invest in a pull-up bar.
Go to a fitness store and test out the different brands of pull-ups. See which one works for you, and buy that one.
If you don’t feel the burn after 10 repetitions, you are doing the exercise wrong. In all exercises, it is the eccentric portion of the exercise that builds muscle. Do the exercise in a smooth, controlled fashion with a 3 concentric and 6 eccentric count. Squeeze at the peak of the motion to get that extra pump.
As in all exercises, make sure to keep your wrists straight and check your posture with these seven vital points: feet hips-width apart and pointed straight ahead; knees slightly bent; pelvis at perfect middle, as if you are sitting at a bar stool; stomach tight, but not flexed; chest straight and aligned on top of ribs; shoulders parallel to ribs; and neck straight on top of body.

You really have to install it REALLY GOOD. Not meaning that it doesn’t have the right stuff to install it, but its needs to be LEVEL. The equipment it comes with is great. Just I based my measurements off my garage door and that door isn’t level. I did a few pull-ups and my left tricep got bigger than my right. I did it reverse side to match the exercise and its pretty close now. After I did that I reinstalled it to be leveled.

GoFit chinup bar- How to use if out of shape/starting…!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I haven’t done a chin-up since way back (60 pounds ago- My record was then 27).
This was “now” MUCH to difficult, for me…!?
Then I talked to a fitness instructor, about my problem…?-
He suggested that I turn regular chin-ups into a “much easier/better” isometric exercise!-
Grab the bar (palms facing, for starters), and hop up (get a stool…), until chin is about even with the bar (you can support a little weight with legs on stool, if too difficult…).
Then just hold that postion for a few seconds… (increase time…, as is comfortable…), then let yourself slowly down.
Do this every “other” day (don’t do/Arthritis…!- if joints or muscles, are sore…!).
I’m now up to four sets of 30 seconds bi-daily, and rotate palms facing or palms away (pull-up)-
My arms & back… have toned up, and I do so “!MUCH!” better at tennis/golf!
I can now do a regular chin-up, but the “extra” strain REALLY makes my joints (shoulder, elbow) ache!
I’ll just stick with the isometrics…!
Notes:
1. I hung it in the bathroom doorway, to help remind me…!
2. Yes- the bar rotates a little, if not gripped firmly (this is REALLY good, for toning your wrists…!)!
3. I Love the cushioned foam grips, that don’t cut off circulation to hands- like my old cushionless bar did!

not going to work for me- pictures/reviews wrong
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
This product has been updated so beware. 2 stars for misleading product page.
While the improvements may benefit some, they will not work for me.
I was purchasing this to use as a pot rack- hoping I could create significant tension to hold small amounts of weight without drilling into my rental’s cabinets. The bar does NOT twist to adjust length- mine just slides in and out, requiring the brackets, which look hexagonal and not round anymore.
I can also say that my tendency to use products for other purposes than originally intended has served me well- so please forgive me for demanding the pictures are of EXACTLY what I will be getting for $20.
Now I have to decide whether it is even worth returning, gifting or what… and back to square one on my non marring pots/pans hanging bar.

Go Fit Chin up bar
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The Go Fit Chin up bar is perfect for me. It’s just what I was looking for. I needed to replace the one I had that doesn’t need to be installed with brackets. It took some hunting to finally find this one. It simply attaches by what I discovered is called a “tension” bar..meaning it just fits in the doorway by opening the bar until the rubber ends finally hold on each side of the door frame. No screws or brackets required!…it’s great.

I put up this chin up bar with the brackets. Installation was extremely easy. The cushioned handles are a nice touch. The only issue I have with it is that it twirls a bit in the bracket. That probably can be fixed with setting the adjustment a bit tighter, but it seems to be as tight as I can get it adjusted by hand. That being said, the bar works well and I would recommend it.

It screws into a wall with brackets provided (although the one they shipped me had NO brackets. So I went to the local sporting goods store and bought another one, and exchanged the one I got from Amazon… heh heh). Adjustable straps are a plus, easy installation (just need to be okay with drilling holes in your door frame.) Once you get it in, its a great bar.

My old roommate had one of these and I loved it so much I had to get one. I am 210lbs and it held me aloft. The padding is so soft that even with my boxer’s fracture I was able to do at least 12-13 reps before giving my hand a rest. I like it, it’s lightweight and useful in building muscle or just getting the blood pumping on a slow day.

the chin bar is ok. there is some problem with the screws and I had to purchase new ones at a hardware store. The Bar will be good for chin ups but will not be useful for wide grip pull-ups. If you have 34 inch door, then buy the bar that extends up to 36 inch.

Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I read all the reviews and noted that spinning or rotating of the bar is a common problem. Years ago (many years) I had a bar in my bedroom door way, it didnt spin and it would have bugged me if it did. Today I stopped at Sports Authority and their standard chin up bar, nice chrome bar real smooth
but amazingly its designed to solve the spinning bar problem. The ends are hexagonal shaped and they fit into the brackets in a way that they cant spin at all. The brackets themselves are not the most gorgeous looking things but use wise its worth checking into if a spinning bar is an issue with you.
Note also, they have a deluxe bar that does not have this feature and doubtless does spin, so look for the standard model, it was only $14.99
This bar is available at amazon as the TKO Doorway Pull up Bar for $17.99

The wrong item is pictured. The chin up bars with the rubber stoppers on each end are no longer in production. However, Amazon and Go-Fit have failed to update their pictures in a timely manner and will send you a chin up bar with hexagonal ends that can only be mounted using the installation hardware. I ordered what I thought was pictured and received the wrong item and was then forced to shell out $15.85 to send the thing back. Don’t order this item and don’t expect courtesy or promptness from the customer service department either.

Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I agree with all the positive reviews of this product, and agree with the people that say you really should use the mounting hardware and that it only takes a few minutes to put up. However, the screws that came with the mounting bracket are very soft, and the head of the first one I tried to drive in just turned to iron filings, so I grabbed 6 decent wood screws and put them in. As near as I can tell, the cheap hardware is the only real corner they cut.

I only had this for about 3 weeks and only used it 2-3 times a week. I was in the middle of doing pull-ups when I hear a loud pop and suddenly the bar spun around very quickly nearly throwing me to the floor. I was lucky enough to have gotten my feet down in time to catch myself otherwise I would have fallen back on the weights racked behind me. The bar broke free of the circle part that rests in the bracket on the thicker part where the pads are. Very disapointing to have a bar break that was practicly brand new. I e-mailed Go-Fit to voice my concern and never heard from them about the incident. It might have been a freak accident, but it was one that’s made me nervous about trying Go-Fit out again.

Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This bar works exactly as you’d want it to. It’s fairly easy to install, but there’s weird metal tabs on the brackets whose function isn’t entirely clear. Are they supposed to help hold the bar in place? In any event, it’s well worth the money and time to install in your bedroom door, especially if you’re like me and hate going to gyms. My guns are huge.

Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I purchased this because I have only one door in my place and it measures exactly 24″ wide on the interior. But, when I got this one in the mail and tried to set it up, it was at least 1 full inch too wide. Therefore, one can only assume that they are lying on the product description. Gave it to a friend, though, and it’s great if you have a standard sized doorway.

So unless you have really strong fingers and wrists, good luck. I have a hard enough time trying to do a pull up. The last thing I need is the bar turning. We tightened it the best we could, and it still turns

This chin up/pull up/ sit-up bar is much better than I expected. First of all you can also do sit ups with it(it holds your feet down under the bar)which I didn’t even know. Secondly you can close the door in whatever position it is in. Also, I am 6’5″ tall and i have not hit my head on it yet while it has been in my normal sized doorway and I don’t hit my knees on the floor while i am doing the pull ups etc. I highly recommend this product if you are looking for a quality product at a good price and want to get stronger arms and abs. Also, Installation was very easy and removing the bar only takes a few seconds because all you have to do is unscrew a few full rotations and it can be put away out of sight, however the mounting brackets are kind of ugly though without the bar in position. Other than that this product is great.

I have had this product for a couple weeks now. I have only used it for sit ups as I use a beam on my deck for pull ups already. It works great for sit ups, Ive been training for the Police exams where I must do 40 in one minute, so I do them fast and hard, and this bar does not budge, holds nice and tight. Now I dont have to ask one of my sisters to hold my feet for me, I can just do them on my own.
My only complain is the screws that came with it, the heads are pretty weak and my drill ate right through them, I used my own screws and now it works fine.

GoFit Chin-Up Bar Works Well
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
So simple a teenager can put it up! No, really, the design of the chin-up bar is wonderfully simple. The mounting brackets are thick gauge; three screws per side hold the brackets firmly to the door frame. The brackets are deep enough that if the bar loosens during use (not likely), you’d notice the rattle long before any danger of it slipping from the brackets.

Adjustable grips keep symmetry in door frame
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Comes with two sets of brackets complete with long mounting screws for solid anchoring. The five holes in each bracket allow the bracket to be rotated slightly to fit a narrow door frame, using only four of the five holes, perfectly adequate. I especially like the velcro-adjustable grips to stay centered within the door frame while doing chin-ups.

Rating:2 out of 5 stars
Do not order this item, it’s not the one in the picture. Others have already pointed out that now it comes with odd square brackets that do not properly fit door frames. After my first mounting, the bar was a nightmare to get in and out, as well as chewed up the back side of my door!
I unmounted the brackets, and used a Dremel to cut away the pointless side spin pieces. I do not know why they are there? The bar is now much simpler to get in and out and you can close the door with out it being scraped up badly.
I do not recommend this product. It can be made usable, but it should come usable.

No fear of falling
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve had this bar for a few weeks and it is great! I watched someone use one of my friends pull up bars that was just held on by brackets (it didn’t extend into the door frame). The bar broke, and the guy did a nasty back breaker on the wood floor followed by the back of their head bouncing off the floor like a super ball; I was then terrified to use one of these. I decided to try this one out…and I was enticed by the good reviews and the cost. I was nervous about using it the first time (being 6′ tall & 210 pounds), but as soon as I hung on the bar, I felt safe and secure. I’m down to 200 pounds (after exercising and eating well) and have noticed my arms and back are stronger.
My only gripe is one that others have said…the screws that come with it blow. I drilled the holes out for the brackets and the first screw I tried to put in snapped in half. I threw away the rest of the screws and got some similar wood screws and it was fine. So potental buyers, just get some wood screws from Lowes or something and throw away the supplied screws. Other than that, a excellent product!

At first i was lyk “what the heck” but the new one has thicker mounts and instead of 3 screw holes and thin metal around is I got 5 screw holes and 4 very sturdy brackets. (2 for pull ups 2 for situps and pushups). This is a quality product and for the price you cannot beat it. Dont stutter on buying this its a good one.

Rating:5 out of 5 stars
After reading all the positive comments about the Go-Fit chin up bar, I decided to try it out. I placed the order and it came not even two days later. =)
I was a little worried about the issue with the brackets coming loose and not being of the best quality, but as soon as I opened the package it was quite clear that Go-Fit had upgraded their brackets section). The brackets are very sturdy and also feature a few locking bits attached. But their is a slight problem, I tried to remove the bar from the brackets and it’s seemingly impossible to do. I tried every which way and the bar would not come free. This could be a problem for some people who need to remove it after use.
Other than that, the product is great! It’s very sturdy and is made of very durable materials. It comes with neoprene grips that both prevent slipping from the bar as well as absorbing the sweat accumulated on your palms.
Overall, this is a great product for anyone who wants a simple yet effective tool to add to your workout at home. And of course, you can’t beat the price!

Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I’m satisfied with the bar. The majority of reviews I read were positive and I got what I expected. I do wish the grips were wider, but understand the limits of the grip based on the telescoping design to fit different doorways. Occasionally there is some slip when I use it for pull-ups, but only when i don’t use the grips and go for a wider grip on the bare bar.

In college I had a chin-up bar that you twisted to tighten into a doorframe and I thought that’s what this was as well. Turns out you need a drill (which I don’t have) and you have to drill into your doorframe, which I can’t do since I live in an apartment. What an absolute waste of money. If you live in a home and you own a drill, buy it, for the rest of us it’s completely useless.

It’s simple. Mount as instructed and you’re all set. It’s not like its rocket science to mount a chin/pull up bar. Five screws in each side of the door jam and ta-da. My only recommendation is don’t be lazy mounting the thing. Measure and make your life easier. No one wants to try to install a bar into brackets that weren’t mounted on a straight line. Measure twice, drill once as the case may be.
R. Hutson on Wed, 27th Jan 2010 11:48 pm
Sturdy and reliable, but sometimes uncomfortable.
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The GoFit Chin-Up Bar is very sturdy, having been made of metal and a bit of foam to make hanging more comfortable. However, despite the addition of the thin layer of foam, it is still uncomfortable to use when used in succession. It’s understandable, since it is made of metal, just a heads up.
Also, the screws are a bit short for my taste, so with a recommendation from a fellow reviewer, I replaced them with longer screws.
Besides that, the placement of the foam itself is good and can be used as a marker for which exercise you want to use. For example, if you put your hands on the foam, you’ll effectively be in a stance with your hands outside your shoulders. Put them inside, and your hands will be approximately within your shoulders. This is very good when planning your exercises.

I had none of the above mentioned problems with mine although i didn’t recieve the one pictured (either they changed the bar or i got lucky). It has hexagonal ends so there is no spinning problem and the brackets mount with 5 screws instead of three. If you have a problem with the screws it will most likely be user error. If you drill a pilot hole and properly screw the screws in they will not strip. I am very satisfied with the sit up/chin up bar.

Thrifty Chin-up / Pull-up Bar that WORKS!!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Great price and very easy to mount. I liked the fact that it simply had two metal cups that you had to place on your door to put the bar into. Rather than bore you all with too much detail I suggest reading the other reviews. Follow the directions and you will have no problems.
Plus: The is a good chin up bar for the money. Works great for pull ups and chin ups.
Minus: Although I haven’t tried it I think there may be some problems if you used this for push-ups. It doesn’t seem designed for it, and I wouldn’t be about to try it. Some other bars will do all three. Personally I just like the idea of leaving it in the one position.

Great, simple bar
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This Chin-up bar is great – the installation was easy. I attached it into our narrow hallway instead of a door frame – it works fine, the bar was just long enough to fit in there. I wasn’t too thrilled with the actual attaching device design, it’s these metal squares that you drill into the wall (doorframe) and than you insert the bar into it, with little tabs on the side that are supposed to secure it in place. The system works, just not easy enough for me to bother to install the other set of the metal squares onto the bottom of the wall as well, these should allow you to do sit ups.

I’m only about 100 lbs so these work for me in my dorm room, but otherwise it’s essential to use the bar mounts. Dorms don’t usually allow screws in the wall.

Demand quality hardware
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I am so frustrated with this product’s junk mounting screws. One screw head came off half way into my door and now it’s there permanently. The other screw heads all stripped and I had to remove them with pliers and buy quality ones at the store. The actual bar is fine, but the installation hardware is junk, so buy it knowing you should go out and get your own screws to mount this in your door way. A sign of the times of the quality we are getting. Not a big deal, but frustrating when you expect to get something you can mount when you receive it. I am writing the company, not for a refund or anything, but to demand better quality, even if I have to pay a few more bucks for better screws it’s worth it.

Very solid once mounting brackets are installed – very easy to put together. Comfortable to use, just not easy for the non-initiated.

Excelent Durability
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The product is very simple and straight forward. It does’nt have a bunch of little peices that you can lose or misplace. The one draw back to this product is that the mounting hardware is a little bit to small for drilling into a solid door frame(you will definatly need a power drill). One of the biggest benefits about this product is that it can be used WITHOUT THE HARDWARE! You can simply place it in the door jam and keep expanding it until it is locked ito place by pressure, awsome!

######## EMERGENCY MESSAGE TO ALL USERS/POTENTIAL BUYERS – READ! ########
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Like all of the other people here, I bought this bar and it has performed magnificently. $15 is ridiculously cheap for the high build quality of this item, but **BEWARE**.
******* DO NOT USE THIS ITEM WITHOUT THE BRACKETS ******, no matter how strong you think it is.
I am approximately 165lbs teenager and was using the bar sporadically throughout the day just for fun. Again, I hung this WITHOUT the brackets, which I learned to regret.
One time when I was pulling myself up, the bar fell broke off and fell, leading me to land party on my back and neck.
I immediately got back up like nothing happened, but the next day my back and neck are experiencing shrieking pain.
The use of brackets is not only recommended, but required. It takes only a few minutes!!

GoFit Chin-UP Bar
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
For the price paid I am satisfied. The only complaint I have is that it is hard to fit between your door jamb because of the moldings in the jamb. Easy to assemble, easy to put up. Seems sturdy. Very convenient, I have used it quite a bit. I would recommend this product.

Mounted easily and seems secure. Seems the spot welds on the outer sleeve came loose and it now spins but doesn’t affect the functionality so only took off one star.

Works well
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This bar works exactly like it’s supposed to. Of course you want to drill the mounts into the wall, sounds dangerous if you don’t. The grips are held on by velcro and are easily adjustable. I am fat and this bar is very sturdy when I do pull ups.
I recommend it.

A month of usage
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The product arrived in a poster sized box and was pretty minimal in terms of items required to assemble, so the assembly process was extremely easy. I’ve only screwed in two of the three slots since I weigh less than 140 and haven’t had a problem with stability. It took me a bit of time to figure out that you had to twist the bar to extend it which is kind of dumb looking back. I like the product very much and it’s nice knowing I can now fit chin ups and pull ups into my schedule whenever I need. It’s an excellent minimal piece of equipment that can help get the job done over time.

For 20 bucks, can’t beat it!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I’ve had the bar up for about 2 months and its holding up pretty well. Installing the brackets was easy and simple. My only cons about the bar is that the hand grips start degrading with use so you might want to use gloves after a while. Also it can be difficult sometimes to take the bar out of the wall brackets, but besides that great buy.

good but cheap screws
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I installed this bar and it works good. My only qualm is that the screws they send with it are the cheapest screws I have seen in a while. The screw had stripped before I had gotten it halfway into the door. After about 1/2 an hour I finally managed to get the screw in via plyers. Spend 50 cents at your local hardware store or else you may have a heck of a time getting the screws in without the option of taking them out.

Great but caused wall accident
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
If you’re buying this item I strongly suggest you put it IN THE DOORFRAME… i placed on the walls right in front of my door –my brilliant idea to be able to do it with the door closed, and also higher to allow taller people to pass without bending their heads. However, after about three days the pressure became too much and produced a good sized hole in my wall…
Thats when I realized that the doorframe would be stronger…
I repeat…DONT BE STUPID LIKE ME! USE IT IN THE DOORFRAME!
otherwise, i like it.

Very stable, worth the money, one problem though…
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Very stable, you never feel like it is about to give. Use wood screws instead of the screws provided when you are mounting. The downside is that the bar pushes between the door frame and it has created a small space between the top and side of the door frame. May just be poor construction of my house, but worth noting.

Service a MainStreetThings Priority
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
GoFit Chin-Up Bar I am rarely motivated to take the time to write reviews. It usually requires either a really terrible or really terrific experience to inpire me. In this case, I am pleased to say it was a terrific experience which has so moved me to do so. Won’t go into all the gory details, just suffice it to say that if there was ever any doubt that a particular express shipper–who shall remain unnamed–could find a way to bend a steel bar in a most extraordinary way then this particular shipper’s employees did it. What truly BENT me, however, was the fact they then proceeded to slap the GoFIt Chin Up Bar they had admittedly and amazingly damaged into another box and sent on to me rather than returning it to MainStreetThings. However, I am very pleased to say that it took no more than a quick email to Ron at MainStreet and within a matter of a couple of days I had a replacement–AT NO ADDITIONAL COST!! AND, I didn’t have to hassle with sending the damaged one back either!!! Very rarely do I experience such quality customer service–and when I do, it is certainly worth five stars in my book. Only wish more vendors would take a leaf out of this one’s book.

Good product for the price

I was not disapointed when I’ve received the GoFit Chin-Up Bar. That said, there are a couple of drawbacks:
At a span of 30″ (max span claimed is 32″) the padded grabs are not centered. Although my weight is 150 lbs. (max claimed is 250 lbs.)there is a slight bent of the bar.

Well I read all the reviews about how this guy is this tall and weighs this much and it still holds, but I am 6’4 and weigh 200lbs. and even though I know I should have used the support brackets I didn’t. It’s still holding, no problems, and if I ever lose my car jack I think this could substitute.

Good concept, but not ideal in practice.
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
These fit between the door jambs pull up bars are a good concept for an economical way to get pull ups in your home exercise routine. However I find the conditions just too cramped to enjoy doing pull ups. It is much more fun and think easier to do pull ups if you are hanging with your feet off the ground and not worried your going to bang your head on a door jam. Unless you are very short (or your doors are very high) these bars are too low and you have to bend your knees to do the pull ups. Personally I don’t like that as much and I find myself wishing I had bought a self standing pull up station.

Very simple, but it does its job well. Not very hard to install and easy to use. I do wish it had come with longer screws, but the ones it came with do seem to work. Longer ones would make me feel safer, though.

I’ve been using this for a few days now and it does what I expect it to: it stays in the door frame. It’s got a nice, sturdy feel to it. The rubber pads in the ends help it stay in the door frame without damaging it. It only came with one set of brackets. If you want a pull up bar, this is a good one.

Wish I had bought this years ago!! GREAT! 2 thumbs up!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have had my chin up bar for over a year now, I initially bought it to encourage my “couch potato” kids to challenge themselves or each other! Well it has accomplished that & MORE! My boys now are a LOT leaner & toned, this was an easy “fun” way to get into becoming physically fit! When you see it everyday it is an easy “prompting” to see how many you can now do! We started with some of the kids only being able to hang on it, after reaching it standing on a stool! The youngest kids did NOT want to be left out of the FUN! They even got me, old mom to try my muscles out with it! I am considering buying more for each kids bedroom door, as whenever they see someone doing it, they all have to wait for turns to see if they can out do the other kids (this takes some time as I have “MANY” children!!) SEVEN, & 5 are boys! :.)
The ONLY “CON” is that due to soooo much use it has pushed apart the molding in the door’s frame where it is installed, that will be easy enough to remedy (knocking it back in place) IF we ever go to sell the house.
It is a small enough price to pay for my boys “new found” muscles & has spurred them onto all types of other physical conditioning competing. The latest is seeing who can do a “PLANK” the longest! Mom is holding the lead thus far at a consistent 7 minutes with an occasional 8! But ONLY on an EMPTY stomach first thing in the A.M.! LOL I HIGHLY recommend this inexpensive bar for yourself or a friend, it makes a GREAT gift!

Extremely strong chin-up bar.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
After buying this chin up bar and reading its great reviews I decided to test its strength. I weigh about 165lbs. and the bar held me sturdily without the hardware. It also worked just as well without the hardware for my friend who is about 250lbs. Even when we both hung from it the bar held strong. I wouldn’t recomend tandom pull-ups, however, because it put too much stress on the door frame. This is a much nicer product than the everlast bar. Buy with confidence.
