I’m giving this a 5 star rating because my own M.D. who tends to be one of those old time “gruff” tell it like it is kind of guys admitted THIS is the model machine ..(out of the 6 different) machines the physical therapists had told me about for my ongoing “lifetime back rehab”) .. that he himself has this machine in his own home. He said both he and his wife work out on it. I could never get a solid opinion out of any of the physical therapists .. but my Doctor is a real straight shooter .. I appreciated him telling me the truth when I asked him straight out which one he would buy if he was in my shoes. After reading the various opinions here it just reinforced his opinion. He is a short stocky guy .. I am 5’3 .. I just don’t think he would have recommended this machine for my petite size if he thought there would be ANY problem! (My guess his wife does just fine on it also.) I am going to buy it!

    So far, so good
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Although I may get around to using this for ab and dumbbell work, I actually ordered it to use as a form of therapy for a respiratory condition. I have bronchiectasis in one lung, as well as allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, and clearing my lungs is sometimes impossible for me on my own. My pulmonologist suggested an inversion table or gravity boots to to assist with postural drainage, but I don’t think I could deal with being completely upside down for long enough for it to do me any good!

If I lay on the bench in a position to use it for crunches, with it set at its steepest angle, I can rest comfortably for 20 minutes or more and it has been enormously beneficial to me as a respiratory aid. I’ve had no problems with its construction (though it was a pain in the rear to assemble) or stability. I would definitely recommend it as part of a home gym, or in my case, respiratory therapy. :)

This is a great piece of equipment. It has a heavy duty frame, remains steady and is much sturdier and more well built than I would have thought for the price. Very easy to assemble and its ability to fold up is very convienent.

The Ab/ Hyper bench is an excellent product. I would strongly recommend it. I had looked at other products but this was the best considering that you could work your Abs and Back. The Back Extensions are great, and their is a wide range of difficulties for Abs. The decline angle is low enough for all angles and difficulties,as that was one concern of mine when looking at different Ab benches. The folding feature is great especially if you are short on space. Assembly is easy as Stamina Products also supplies you with all the necessary tools.

Surprisingly good quality for the price
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Delivery: the item arrived promptly and was well packaged; there was no damage.

Assembly: uncomplicated and took under 30 minutes; instructions were straightforward; the bench can be easily folded and stored away.

    Country of origin: China.

Construction: the steel frame is fairly light, but sturdy; no rickety parts; every single joint is thoroughly welded; the bench does not rock or tip during exercise; paint job is A+; padding is a little on a flimsy side and I do not expect it to last as long as my previous bench; the manufacturer specifies 250 lbs as a user weight limit.

Dimensions: the seat is only 28.5 inches long, so decide for yourself whether this is adequate for you; I would estimate that anyone over 6 ft tall will have difficulty using this product for sit-ups.

The vertical component of the bench (tilted 40 degrees and used for back hyperextension exercises) has adjustable height and will accommodate just about any sized human (but do not forget the 250 lbs weight limit); it does excellent job isolating the lower back muscles.

Overall appearance: it looks like a quality product overall, from stitching to glossy finish; the design is certainly compact and clever for what this bench does.

Price: $100 for a bench like this, including delivery, is a good value.

Rating: 4 stars; there are nicer products out there, but they are all bulkier and more expensive.

    Stamina Ab/Hyper Bench
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve had my bench for about a month now and it has met every expectation I had for it. The materials are more sturdy than other models I looked at and it seems like it will hold up to everyday wear and tear. Works great for back extensions and the three settings for abs give a pretty wide range of difficulty. My only complaint is that the cushion for back extentions is one large cushion (instead of having two with a gap in between) and it can be slightly uncomfortable for extended sets.

    JUST WHAT I WANTED!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This ab bench is perfect for what i was hoping it would be. The bench has like four levels of decline so that you can get your lower and upper abs very well. I am 5’6 140lbs and have no problems with the length of the bench. The part to exercise your back is just as good. The back can incline as well for the taller people. I love this machine. It folds up and everything for storage. Great quality product, i personally think that it was under priced. As far as assembly a friend and I put it together, we figured it out with no major glitches. Definetly not a waist of money. I would have paid more.

Simple assembly; easy to use, basic model
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This bench is simple to assemble. I would like to see pins with spring-loaded retainer pins, because the pins that come with the model only slide in but can slide back out just as easy. The use of this model is easy to perform. The situps arrangement might be difficult for shorter-legged users to comfortably use. The bench is also a little short for situps for taller or larger framed individuals. Overall though this is a nice basic bench for the price.

    The joy of abs
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I love this thing, I sit it right in front of the TV while do my sets. I use it with weights and just my body weight. I do back extentions and a variety of ab excercises that I try. The bench is sturdy, but depending on how much lateral motion you have, it can get wobbly. I say this because I noticed when doing a variation of a situp I got some rocking going on. Overall I love the thing, manly looking, and pretty good for a variety of home excercises with weights that can be done in front of the TV and next to the couch; attention all couch potatoes and gamers!

    good bang for the buck
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This ab bench delivers on what it promises. It’s sturdy and looks like it will last a lifetime. The set up was pretty convenient–the lugs/nuts are pretty oversized so that made assembly quite easy. While it does fold up, I think once it’s set up, you’re most likely going to find it easier to keep it in workout mode.

The tilt for working out the small of the back is great–you can adjust the cross-bar support to suit pretty much any height from 5’4′ to 6’6″ I’d say.

Great AbBack Machine But Has Cons
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I was originally going to buy a separate abdominal slant board and hyperextension piece of equipment then found this all in one piece at a great price. For the most part is does meet my needs. I can do back exercises on it without hitting the board with my face. I am also able to do sit ups with a 35 pound plate on my chest with no problem. For the money, the bench is pretty solid. The only problem with it is that the lower adjustable calfshin pad is not long enough. People shorter then 5′ 6″ or have short legs will have problems hooking their ankles under the padded shin bar to do sit ups. I can comfortably do sit ups if the board is aligned parallel to the ground. Setting the bench one notch lower to a decline position does not work for me. I can’t hook the adjustable shin bar under my ankles. My work around is to leave the board at a parallel position. I then grab a heavier weight plate and place it on my chest for a harder work out. As a previous reviewer stated, this item may not be acceptable for really tall people as well due to the short length of the back board.

I was reallys surprised as to how well this bench works. For the price it can’t be beat and it even folds up in your closet when you’re not using it. YOu can do hyper extensions, Ab crunches, curls, etc… Get a set of dumbells and you can get a pretty decent workout. It came shipped for free in 2 days as well. I’m very heppy with it

Short on quality but long on compromise
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
As I said in my title for this review, this device is short on quality but long on compromise. You will find better ab benches. And you will find better hyper benches. If you’ve got the space, I would definitely NOT recommend this product. However, if you’re looking for a cost effective, space saving compromise, this should work for many – though, even here, not all. I wanted something that did as many things as possible and took up as little space as possible. I figured that, for $[...] bucks, even if it broke, it would probably take a few months before it did (ie more than enough time to justify buying it when compared to a nearby gym which cost me about $80 a month…). Things have worked out ok – nothing special, but ok. However, if you are short, or have short legs, I would NOT buy this product, as the situp engineering seems designed for very tall people (if you look through the other reviews, others go into more detail on this…). Bottom line: it’s a $[...] bucks. It works like they say it does – though, maybe not for everyone. One final thing: for some unknown reason, they engineered it for 2 pins at the big “V” joint (I don’t know what else to call it). I strongly recommend putting a bolt right alongside the other bolt in lieu of the pull-out/pop-in pin. There will never be a time when you will need to use the pin, but there will be many times where the pin will slowly work its way out. This is what happened with my device. As I had no idea that the pin was working loose, I kept working out on it until the pin slipped out and the device began splitting apart. The metal bent and I had to take it apart and hammer the metal back into shape again. Then I put in a bolt. Since then, there have been no problems.

    Great ab bench!
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I was very pleased with this purchase. It was for my guy, for Christmas. He’d been looking for an inverted bench, but put off the purchase until after the holidays. His 5-year-old daughter helped me with assembly. It did take a couple of tries on getting the foot plates and the actual bench in the right orientation, but all in all it was very simple to assemble. It is heavier (read: sturdier) than I expected it to be, so I was quite pleased about that! If any complaints at all, I do not like the lack of padding on the bar behind the knees if you are on the incline bench. The ankle bar padding is great, but additional padding on the knee bar would be more comfortable with extended repetitions. It would be simple to add more padding or a towel, if it is too hard on the back of your knees.

    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
It’s easy to put together, but the instructions were sometimes confusing. If you did not do certain things in the right order it was that much harder.

That aside it’s great for what is designed for. Now the exercise Back Extensions I found really easy to do, so to establish gains I hold additional weight. Still that is not a fault of the bench so I give it a five.

I have been using the Stamina Ab / Hyper Bench for about five weeks now. things that I like about the bench are; portability ( it folds up and takes up little space.), multi-purpose bench ( work back, ab’s, etc ) , looks and feels well made. I’m happy with my purchase and feel like I got a very good deal. It was well packaged when it arived, and was easy to assemble. Because of the adjustability of this bench, I think it would be a good choise for a begining or experienced fitness level. the handlebars make it easy to pick-up when folded, and help when getting on when the bench is in full incline.

A dedicated workout will keep your abs slim & trim
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Because of the many positive reviews (which I forwarded to my husband), I was convinced that I must have this product. With my husband’s blessing (he emphathizes with my persistant back pain), I purchased the bench. After receiving it, I was even more compelled to write a review on how great I think this product is. With the help of my two young sons, we were able to put this bench together in less than an hour. I would have rated it five stars; however, we did encounter two problems where both the seat cushion and the knee cushion could not be properly assembled because of the screw distance on each. The screws were measured improperly to the point that I could not completely attach either as instructed. In light of this fact, I have been using this bench on a daily basis without much wobbling. I recently received a replacement bench/knee cushion, but I have yet to try to reassemble them to see if they are a perfect match. I will probably hold on to them in the event that the unit becomes wobbly or loose. Because of my personal dedication to this equipment, I have lost at least one inch in my waistline and my jeans feel so much more comfortable. However, when I attempt the hyper exercise, I find that my lower back pain is exacerbated. I do have arthritis in my back so others who might have this problem, beware first and discuss with your doctor! Great product for the money! Stamina Ab / Hyper Bench

    Its good
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I recently purchased this bench and over all its good. It’s biggest down sides are its cost and its somewhat challenging to put together. The instructions read like they were written by someone who uses english as a second language.

Otherwise, I like the product. It definitely targets the abs and I like that its storable. All of my exercise equipment has this feature so that I can save space. Its comfortable and easy to use. So, if you can afford it and have the patience to construct it, I think it is a good product and I am happy with it so far.

Good, versatile bench- for the money
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
A lot has already been said on the construction of this bench, so I will chime in with a quick: I like this bench.

I like this bench. It is solid and fairly versatile; I wanted an ab bench that I could also use for Roman chair (hyper extensions), and sitting on for shoulder presses, etc.

The bench has a small adjustable range, but I have found it to be exactly what I need. I don’t need forty positions when four will do the job nicely.

The lock pin alignment could use some work, but I honestly feel that as I use the bench more that will become easier (familiarity and all that).

I give the bench five stars because I feel I got my money’s worth and then some. I feel confident this bench will last me many years.

I wasn’t sure how this purchase was going to turn out but I have to say I’m extremely pleased with this bench. Good sturdy construction that will last a long time.

Don’t let the low cost fool you, this is a quality bench that will get you excited about your ab workouts.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure there are better benches out there and I’m sure they cost a lot more money but for $99 this bench is exactly what I was looking for.

    A+ in my book.

Several machines in one, but not gimmicky. Great for lower back issues.
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
If you suffer from lower back pain, this is the machine you’ve been waiting for. Before thee Ab/Hyper Bench came along, you had to use a roman chair in order to work your lower back. But roman chairs aren’t made for home use because they’re too bulky considering that they really aren’t good for much else but that one exercise (unless you’re a pro bodybuilder). Personally, I find it difficult to climb into position on a roman chair, even at the gym.

The Ab/Hyper Bench, however, is easy to use and has several purposes. Back raises, crunches, curls, leg lifts, and you could even use it as your bench press. This unit is not built like one of those crappy informercial workout widgets. This is heavy gauge steel that was built to last. The padding is pretty durable too, and the moving parts feel solid and move smoothly.

The only draw back I can see is that people (particularly men) with short legs may have trouble leaning over against the flat pad. I have a 28″ inseam and when I lean over the hip/knee pad… well, let’s just say that it’s a little close for comfort. And that’s at the lowest setting. Aside from that one detail, I’ve got no complaints. Invest in one of these to strengthen your lumbar region. Between sets, walk around to the other side to do some incline sit-ups or dumbbell presses. Cheers.

    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Similar to other reviewers, I was looking for a bench that I could do both abdominal and lower back work. This was the only decent bench that fit the bill within this price range. The construction is nice and sturdy, the assembly was no problem, and overall I’m very pleased. The only thing keeping this from a 5 star rating for me is the lenghth. I wish the main section were a foot longer, which would allow me to more easily use it with dumbells for chest work. Although I do love how you can raise the thigh support for curls – I wouldn’t have known to do that if it weren’t for the photo on this site. Bottom line: good value for a versatile bench.

If I can put this together — anyone can put this together. It was a little overwhelming when I first opened the box, but once I started to read the instructions – it only took me about 30 min. to completely put this equipment together. It is a bit heavy and barely fits under my bed – but lucky for me, once folded – it fits perfectly. I use the Stamina Ab/Hyper Bench for so many different types of exercises – leg lifts, bench press, arm curls, sit-ups, back raises – just to name a few. I’m 5’3 and I don’t have any problems fitting into the positions. This is the closest thing to an all-in-one that can be folded/stored for people who live in smaller spaces. I’m very happy with my purchase – excellent quality and it arrived within days of my order. If you enjoy working out at home – I highly recommend the Stamina Ab/Hyper Bench.

I am 6 ft tall and I do wish the bench was longer BUT i am still able to do crunches/sit ups just fine. I like that it’s not too big and it fits in my spare bedroom. This is a great product – it’s a 2 for 1 deal!

Works well. Easy to adjust. Was simple to put together. Instructions well written. Great for home work outs. Only adjustment I would make would be to use a keeper pin to keep roller pads closer to feet if that is what someone wanted. I use a belt to hold them down. Excellent product for the money.

This is a sturdy and excellent product you have to be a midget in order to not be able to use this product.

    Good for Home Gym

The Stamina Ab/Bench is a very good small footprint piece for your home. It is one of the more versatile ab/back benches for the price. The hip/knee pad is probably more comfortable for women, but is adequately padded. The plywood beneath the padding could be a litter thicker but the frame is solid. The only concerns would be: the short bench for situps (make sure the back of your head doesn’t hit the floor at the bottom of your situp with the bench at max incline) and the short length of the toe/ankle bar which should be lengthened to accomodate shorter legs especially as one tries to hook ones toes behind it during situps or crunches. I’ll probably make modifications to it , but overall, a good starting piece.

    1) I went to several stores and looked at several web sites and never saw a bench as good as this one looked.

    2) this one is better than it looked

    3) My wife is also using it now :-)

    4) I haven’t had to go prematurely to the chiropractor since getting it. (I still go.)

5)The only problem I’ve had is with the pin used to adjust the angle of the bench. I remove the pin to get the bench to go down all the way. I leave the removed pin on the floor near the bench. We were “baby sitting” my 8 year old nephew and haven’t seen the pin since then. I had to go the a local hardware store and get a trailer hitch pin. When I find my original pin, I will drill a hole through the end of it and tie it to the bench so it won’t “walk off” again :-)

This bench was the best combination I could find that did both sit ups and hyper back exercises. It works suprisingly well for what it costs. The lower leg holder can be set low for back exercises, and set higher for sit ups. The padding and covers seem decent. Lots of adjustments. It’s not as heavy duty as the ones at gyms, but for at home I am satisfied.
