    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
my wire broke too. I weigh under 180 pounds and the wire broke after about 3 months of use. After reading all the similar reviews it seems this product needs to get a new design with a stronger wire. Until this gets sturdier, I wouldn’t recommend.

    Inexpensive exercise stepper
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This stepper is no frills but is inexpensive. It is compact and easy to assemble and use. The user needs to put it next to something which they can hold onto. Many people would find it difficult to use without holding on to something for balance. The biggest fault with it is that there is no way to adjust the tension or amount of force it takes to use it. It starts out pretty stiff and over time, requires less pressure to push down the petals. This is the second one I have had. I wore the first one out. For a compact inexpensive unit, I still think it is a good buy.

    Great product!
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I was a little skeptical when I read some of the reviews where people had problems with it breaking, but I am so glad I bought this stepper. I’ve been using it for a month, 6 days a week and no problems so far. It gives me a great workout. The only criticism I have is that the counter is inaccurate, but I just keep track of my progress using the timer instead of the number of steps. Also, it did squeak a little bit, but I read a suggestion from another reviewer recommending to WD40 the cable ends and the squeaking stopped immediately.

A great product for the price. I hate exercising, but don’t mind it using this stepper. I’ve already lost 10 pounds!

Cable breaks, product does not stand up
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I’m highly dissapointed by this product.

I like stepping a lot, and do it for a while when I play guitar hero. The moment I stepped on this product I was confused. The natural angle that your feet rest at is tilted towards the front of the stepper. I had to prop the entire device up to compensate. Other steppers I’ve had from two separate brands did not require such odd measures. It seems to me like they never tested their product for actual use.

    Even worse…

I purchased two of these at the same time, knowing that I’ll burn out the piston aspect of it like I always do other products. That should be the weak link, and I have simply come to expect it. However, another part has been breaking on me — the cable that hooks into the pully.

I purchased two of these expecting one to serve as a repository for replacement parts. Sadly, I’ve burned through two cables and have to either get more, or replace the device with something that can stand up to a bit more use. The cables begin failing by fraying from one of the metal attachments that hook into the frame of the stepper — they make a loud noise that is seemingly inexplicable, until you blow through the final strands that hold everything together.

This represents my third and fourth steppers owned since I started stepping two years ago. The single thing about these that is superior to others that i’ve used — they are very quiet. I’ll be purchasing another stepper today, but not this one.

    Great workout, but breaks easily
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
This compact machine is easy to use and will give you a terrific workout. Even for people like me, who don’t enjoy exercising, it’s a simple and easy way to stay in great shape. I just set it up in front of the TV and work out to music videos on VH1 Classic (all the motivation of music with all the distraction of television). I love the display, as well, which cycles between minutes spent, calories burned, and stairs climbed – very rewarding to see those numbers climb with you. It’s also not too hard to balance on, though if you’re nervous about falling over, just pull up a dining room chair next to you, with the back of the chair facing you as a kind of hand rail.

Unfortunately, for all its good qualities, the InStride Mini-Stepper is just not very well made. Like many other reviewers, I find the constant squeaking irritating. But even worse, only a few months into owning this thing, one of the shocks started leaking oil. Fortunately, it was still under warranty and the company sent me a replacement, but not long after that, the other shock started leaking, too. What a pain, and a mess! I guess you get what you pay for…

    Oh, my legsss…..
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I received my stepper today and I’m overjoyed with this machine’s outstanding quality. I made sure not to get my hopes up (I mean, it is $59.00!) but, this little stepper exceeded my expectations. It’s materials are quite heavy which are to me, a sign of good quality. It makes no noise, the pedals give comfortable resistance, it’s step counter is accurate and is overall impressively sturdy. The only “con” I can think of is the lack of rails. If you don’t have good balance you may want to reconsider or just place this stepper near something you can lean on. It helps me to use my arms more which gives me more balance and probably a better work out. I like this machine a whole lot better than the electronic/air steppers at the gym. I get the same workout in the comfort and safety of my home and it’s ideal if I get home late and don’t want to walk in the dark. These pedals will keep you in the up position so you control how slow or fast you want to step down. This machine arrived fast and to top it all off, they include a battery for the counter. What a great investment. I’m very satisfied.

    Great Exercise! Unreliable Electronics!
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I reviewed this product and others like it prior to purchasing it. I want to thank all of those who took the time to write a review. I am glad to be able to do the same for others.

I purchased this item approximately one month ago. I loved it from the very get go. My husband assembled it. He said it was not difficult. It gets my heart pumping and the sweat pouring in a matter of minutes. The most difficult part is getting through the first 10 minutes after that the burn in my legs lessens and I really enjoy the workout. I workout when watching TV in the evening or the morning news before work. My 7 year old daughter also likes it. She gets on it while she watches cartoons. It has become the favorite “toy” for my 10 and 7 year old nieces too. It is compact which makes it easy to transport and to store.

Mine too began to squeak. I was able to remedey the problem with a good shot of WD-40.

The reason why I gave it 4 stars was because the electronic device that is supposed to count your steps and time does not keep an accuratte count. It worked fine the first time or two but after that it stopped counting the steps or keeping time accurratly.

I would buy one without the electronic device and spend my money on a pedometer and keep time w

    Best Stepper Ever
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I love working out; I have a gym membership and both a gazelle and the Stamina InStride Stepper at the house. I run, I hike, my boyfriend thinks I’m crazy. I like this stepper better than the expensive ones at the gym. Its sturdy yet portable, and unlike most pieces of exercise equipment, this one really can easily be stowed anywhere. Its great for in front of the TV. I’ve owned my stepper for about 6 monthes now and the only issue I’ve had is that it needed a little WD-40 (it was squeaking). You can definitely feel it in your thighs after a good workout. I’d recommend it to anyone. For an added boost, buy a couple weighted balls to hold during your workouts.

This thing works. You will feel it right away in your butt and thighs. It does take time to get a rythm going because its really hard to keep your balance. I finally decided to wrap my exercise bands under it and hold onto them for balance. This made a Huge difference and now I put the stepper to good use.

I purchased this last year and have been using it for a good 15-20 each night. It gives a great workout. I did notice there are no straps to keep your feet on the pads, so I made some velcro straps for it. I do recommend wearing sneakers or slippers while wearing this.

    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
It broke. Twice. The first one I sent back. Customer service was good, delivery of a new item was prompt, which is why this gets two stars instead of one from me. It broke a second time, however, and I give up. The first time the piston part got stuck and impeded the stepping motion. The second time the cord that goes around the rotary disc broke. Argh!

    The best stepper!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This stepper is absolutely perfect! I was looking for a stepper with strong resistance, a timer and step counter, and one that is sturdy and well constructed for a good price. Honestly, this stepper does all of that and much more. It has great resistance, but if you are looking to change resistance, this does not do that. The workout is also great. Honestly after 100 steps you can really feel it working. I have been using it roughly 5 times a week, 1000 steps each time and I can already see and feel a difference in my legs (thighs and calfs) and but. The lower body really responds well to this stepper and things are just tightening up! The other great thing about it is that you have to balance yourself and stand up straight without depending on handle bars (this is very easy to do)making it a better workout all around. Sometimes there is a soft sound, not a squeek, I really dont know how to explain it, but it is so minimal that I dont even notice it and it does not happen all of the time, but just to be clear it will not wake anyone up or disturb anyone. I am so happy with my purchase. The price is great and the product is worth so much more than the cost. It is definetly worth the buy!

This stepper is good to have around if you want to do quick cardiovascular exercise.

Setting up was easy and straightforward. Like the other reviewers have noted mine squeal too. You will feel initially heavy resistance when you start stepping but that will ease as the machine get warmed up which is good thing because you cannot adjust tension on this stepper.

I feel this stepper is good to have around for people who want to do some exercise (which is better than being a couch potato) or spend more money on gym. If it breaks then I’ll just order another one but I doubt it. After several months of daily use it is still going strong. :)

Edit: After daily usage the cable finally broke so I will have to order replacement.

Although the stepper is a little noisy, it worked fine until the metal cross bar that provides tension for the pedals broke.

It’s an inexpensive product, and you get what you pay for.

    A Real Workout
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
This stepper is quite sturdy, and really gives you a workout, but there is no way to change the amount of tension, so until you build up stamina, you may only be able to use it for 5 minutes at a time. It takes a while to get up to 20-30 minutes which is what is considered a typical workout. It is well made though and stands up to a 300 pound man’s weight.

    my favorite machine
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I love this machine. I’ve had it for about 2 years and never had a problem besides the squeak. None of the pieces ever broke and I use it 4-5 days week for 45-60 minutes. However, it is dangerous how hot the metal bars in the hydraulic pumps get; my skin literally blistered when I tried to moved it after my workout. The calorie counter is definitely not accurate but it’s a great functional stepper overall.

    Verry Good Overall
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Well built and sturdy. Can be a very good workout once you get used to the motion. I recommend using some sort of resistance tubing or bands as this increases the intensity of the workout and works the upper body more. It is fine for me as a 190 lb. male but would be nice if it had some sort of variable resistance. Very good value.

  21. A. Green on Mon, 19th Apr 2010 8:16 am

Works well enough for the price
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
It is a stable and sturdy device that does not tip over even if a heavy person loses balance while using it. The stepper is very easy to assemble – only the display and belt need to be attached. The display is sort of small and hard to see from the top unless you exercise in a well lit area. This mini-stepper does not allow you to adjust stepping difficulty level, you just take bigger or smaller (really it’s deeper or more shallow) steps. Really small, low-intensity steps, that barely push the pedal down are not counted as steps by the machine. All in all it is a reasonable quality for the low price, and combined with dumbells or a stretch band makes for a decent workout.

Not bad if you have a can WD-40 around.
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
After 2 weeks using it for 4-5 times per week & 45 minutes each time, this unit works great. The squeaking noise was little annoying but it went away after I WD-40ed it. For those of you couldn’t figure out how to oil this thing, the cable connectors were creating the squeaking sound. Find the two cable ends & just WD-40 them, the sound should go away.

I love this machine. Since I received it I am so dedicated to working out because it is fun to do. I put the radio on loud and start stepping.

I used to go to the gym six days a week but, now with children and my business I do not have time so I purchased this stepper and some weights and actually enjoy it better than going to the gym. It is lightweight, compact and fun!!!!In fact, my husband is going to order another one for our store. And the results are great! I thought by not having anything to hold on to it would be hard to step but, this isnt so. It is very comfortable to step on and I don’t need anything to hold on to. Great buy!!!!!

    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I only use it as a back-up to when I can’t go for a walk outside. For that purpose, it’s good enough. It doesn’t take up space and is easy to use. It is squeaky like some other users mentioned, but it doesn’t bother me too much as I had tv or music on loud enough to cover it up. The only thing is that it doesn’t have varying resistance, so if you don’t weigh much, it’s quite a bit of effort to step on it. I weigh about 92 and it’s hard to get it going. For my husband who weighs 145, it’s much easier.

    Great price for good workout
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I am very happy with my purchase. I got it for a great price before the holidays. I’ve used it almost everyday since. It’s a great machine to use when you’re crunched for time or while you’re watching TV. It provides a pretty good cardio workout and is easy on the knees. Two issues: 1) that it does make a squeaky noise, but it’s really not too much of a nuisance; and 2) I wish the display wasn’t so sensitive as it will reset itself if you press it a little too hard. Overall, it’s a great purchase for the money, especially if you like to have the convenience of working out at home and tire easily of other workouts.

    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This product is not worth the savings at all. I weigh 215 lbs. and it says it has a limit of 250 lbs. NOT AT ALL, it broke twice. The cable around the wheel snapped both times. Each stepper only lasted about two weeks. Stear clear of this product at all costs. The only good thing about this experience is Amazon did replace it fast, the second time I gave up on this machine and sent for a refund.

They are completely unprofessional and never even sent an order acknowledgment or shipping confirmation. DO NOT REINFORCE THIS BEHAVIOR!

I will use it later on today, it did get me tired and my heart pumping, which I absolutely love. It’s also a fun way to exercise. I would recommend this product to anyone. It only took me about 5 minutes to install, it’s that easy!

Good for quickie workouts; too flimsy for anything more
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
The space-saving design is a lifesaver, but with that comes flimsy construction as others have mentioned. I used it regularly for just under 90 days, and by regularly I mean 3-4 times a week for 20-30 minutes each. The workout was great! However, at just a few days shy of the 90 day warranty the cable broke. I requested a new one and never received it (2 months later), even after calling the company who told me it would be in the mail. Definitely would not recommend unless you just use it as a backup source of exercise maybe once a week.

It feels quite sturdy and safe and I am using the thing. I would suggest it as an item to add variety to your aerobic exercise, not as your only aerobic activity. I has started squeaking a bit after a month’s use. It comes and goes. It can probably be lubricated but I have been too lazy to try that yet. Happy stepping.

We had been using a pretty massive (in weight) stepper we got from Hammacher Schlemmer many years ago, but it finally blew out one of its hydraulics, and so we went loking for a replacement, hoping to find the same unit. Well, we couldn’t and settled on this one, which has been a very pleasant surprise. Despite the reasonable price, its nicely sturdy and has a good solid action. It comes with an electronic counter which we haven’t bothered to hook up. We just get on the stepper, turn on the TV and go for as long as we can and/or have time. These types of units are a great way to burn fat. We’re hoping for long-term durability, but of course, won’t know about that till the time passes.

    poor design
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
Poorly designed, there is a metal strap that connects the foot pads together. I broke 5 of them in the 90 warranty period. I give them 2 stars, one because it is good exercise if you get to use it, and one because they did send the replacement parts quickly. I had to wait a month for the first replacement, but then usually only about the week for each of the others. They told me it was “not designed for a dedicated athlete like myself”. What a crock. If you are looking for a decorative piece to sit in the corner this will probably do. But if you actually want to get some exercise I would look elsewhere. It seems to be a recurring theme with this company, look at reviews of some other products they sell.

After only a few uses, the shocks on the machine started squeaking. After a few more uses, the stepper pads started to squeak. Then the tension pully started to squeak. Then the hinges started to squeak. I’m not a heavy gal so it’s not due to the weight of the user — heaven help you if you’re over 110lb because I can only imagine the noises this thing will make! The mechanism works fine and is a decent workout but the high-pitched squealing will drive you crazy after a while.

Im at 230lbs and with the vest thats 305lbs and i have not had any problems with this stepper, but then again I dont over use it. I only gave it 3 stars because the calorie counter is off, the step counter is off as well, and you cant change the height of the step. Ive been working with this stepper for about 3months now and so far so good.

This one you will really use!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This product is easy to use and very effective. What’s best — it is really light and small so you can put it wherever you want — it’s great in front of the TV! It is very sturdy and simple in its design. This product provides a great work out and is fun and convenient to use. I highly recommend InStride!

Despite its squeaky noise, I am satified with this product.
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
As many other customers reported, my stepper makes a squeaky noise. I tried WD-40, but it didn’t get rid of it completely. But considering the convenience of getting daily excercise at home, the noise doesn’t bother me much. I honestly love this product. The product doesn’t seem to be extremely durable though. How long it will last may depends on your weight.

I bought this stepper, and within three months the cable broke. Customer Service informed me they would send me a replacement that Friday. It’s been three Friday’s, and now they tell me the cable will be shipped out either on Friday or next week.

    Sturdy Mini Stepper
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
After researching many mini steppers, I settled on this one. It has met my expectations being sturdy, easy to set up and use, and gives a wonderful workout. It operates silently so I can watch TV while I exercise. As I am not very heavy, I cannot imagine needing a harder workout! A good product.

    Great Buy
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I received this product quickly and I assembled it in 1 minute. It works great! It’s easy to move around and it doesn’t take up alot of space. Like other reviews say, it does squeek once you start using it for a couple of minutes. But it’s not that loud and i don’t even notice it after a few minutes. Also it is pretty stiff for the first 20 steps or so everytime you use it. It seems it has to warm up. But i have absolutly no problem with that. I think this product was a great buy!

I like the Stamina Stepper, it gets my heart rate going right away. I like how it’s compact and sturdy. The only minor downside about this machine is it makes some noise.

    Good workout for small space
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’m living in a small studio. This product is good for small space, easy to assemble and not expensive. It had little noisy sound but I think ok. I exercised with this through this summer.

    Nice workout~

    Expect many repairs
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
In the 9 months I have owned this stepper, the cable has broken twice, and two bolts that are attached to the steps have snapped clean off. I used this product for about 30-40 minutes a day, a few days a week, which I wouldn’t think would cause undue wear and tear. I thought that owning my own stepper would be convenient – but the number of repairs required has made it very inconvenient.

I bought this at Walmart for under fourty dollars. It does the job. I feel it in the quads pretty good. I use it in combonation with the gazelle and other workouts.

I do it for about 20mins at a time while watching tv.

Get off your butt and feel the burn … on your knees
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I’ve just burned 62 calories in 7 minutes, if the counter is working right. My heart rate is mildly elevated and I’m not breathing hard, but if I kept on striding, this could turn into a nice aerobic workout. I bought this stepper to get some exercise while watching exciting online training courses for work (“Increase Office Productivity by Staying Later”) and episodes of “Glee” on my computer.

Here are my initial reactions, considering I’ve had this for about three days. The set-up was OK; I was able to figure it out. When I first went on the stepper, I had the hardest time trying to make the step go all the way down. Either a sedentary lifestyle had turned my leg muscles into jelly or my smaller body frame was the reason (slightly flabby, but not enough weight to push it down). I was able to get moving by taking half steps; and I go faster if my feet are closer to the outside. The counter appears to get it right whether I push all the way down or just halfway.

I also chose this stepper because I wanted something portable that offered exercise in short, guilt-induced spurts. After I eat fatty foods, the guilt hits, and I am suddenly very motivated to move. This can-do attitude lasts for a whole five to ten minutes. Getting on a big treadmill or a hulking elliptical machine seems to demand a half-hour or more, and I can’t handle that kind of commitment. The stepper absolves my guilt in a less all-out fashion.

Today, for example, I started off loving myself with a bowl of All-Bran. Then it all went to hell when I moved on to batter-fried fish, fried chicken, two slices of fudge cake and an Oreo McFlurry. After downing the cake, I used the stepper for about 5 minutes and felt a little better. That gives me a total of 12 minutes on the machine today. And from what I’ve read, the minutes of exercise you get here and there do add up for overall health.

    Other things to note…

    - A sense of balance is needed to stand on the stepper.

    - Once I got on, I was higher than I thought I would be.

-With each step, I feel pressure on my knees, so if you have bad knees, this might not be the machine for you. Heck, in the long term, this might not be the machine for me and my knees!

-Other reviews have mentioned that the stepper was noisy, but mine is quiet, so far.

-I’m not sure which leg muscles are being worked out. Doesn’t feel like the core or butt muscles either.

Guess I’ll see after a month. If I can keep it up. (The elliptical has laundry hanging on it.)

    cheap product
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
for 30 days, no problem, then it brakes. 1st the cable broke and it took the company 20 days to replaced, then the screw stripped and it took 10 days to replace it. then the cable broke again and it was out of stock and back ordered for 30 days. It’s not good to have a product you can not use because the parts keeps braking. The company Stamina is small and dont have the parts to back up their products. This product is made cheap that’s why the parts keep braking.

I like my stepper. It only need a little bit of assembly which took about 5 minutes. It counts steps and calories burned, and keeps track of time. It is small so I can hide it when needed.

I have owned this about two weeks and I happen to love it. I bought it to leave near my computer to remind me to get up and move a bit! It feels GREAT when you are done. I have not had any trouble at all with mine. It has even encouraged my 12 yr old to get movin’ on it!

I think it is very sturdy and it is heavy, yet it is compact enough to move to a closet!

I’m very pleased with the purchase!

Being a 3 years old boy’s father with a full time job, I do not have any free time go gym but still want to do light excerise daily. Mini Step seems the way to go.

This mini step seems strudy and the digtial display is a big plus too.

I use it around 15 minutes a day (2 weeks now) in my house and it does not have any problem and make any noise yet.

It really save my money, time and space.

    small, sturdy, good workout
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The primary problem with this product is that it does squeak, but this problem can be solved with WD-40 or other lubricant.

So far, the product has been sturdy, reliable, and dependable. It will give you a good cardio work-out if you can get to exercising on it fast. The electronic meter is also nice as it estimates calories burned, time spent on the machine for the current session, number of steps, and a few other things.

Pros: Reasonable price, good work-out, convenient to have in home

Cons: wish it had some upper body component, squeaky at times

I bought this stepper back in April. I found that I would definitely be sweating after using this stepper. It does give you a good workout. The problem is that after a few uses it did start to squeak, which could be a bit annoying. Also, the cable just snapped on me today. So needless to say it is not the best built product.

Great Workout for Little Room and Money
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
While I have only used this a few times so far, each time I’ve used it for only a few minutes, my heartbeat would start racing… which is great, because it shows you can get a decent cardiovascular workout without trekking out into the cold or paying a lot to go to a gym.

I have very little space and a treadmill is just not an option… so this is a great alternative. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because you can’t adjust the resistance of the steps, which would be ideal. But the resistance is just hard enough to make it a workout… it’s not too difficult (it took me a couple tries to realize if you step faster it’s easier and a better workout.)

*WARNING: If you are over 250lbs, don’t buy this! The instructions say that it will not support anyone 250+ lbs… just thought you guys should know beforehand.

Gives a great workout, and if you squat while your doing it, it feels like your legs will fall off! It’s awesome, great cardio too. Doesn’t feel cheap. Only thing I will say is its for petite feet. My husband wears a size 12 and it looks like he’s gonna break it cuz his feet hang off the back of the pedals.

    bad luck with the stepper
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I loved my stepper for about two months – it’s small and compact, the workout was great – and then it broke. I then ordered a replacement part, which came in worse condition than the one I was replacing. My stepper was fantastic when it worked but I seem to be having bad luck with it.

One other small problem – it squeaked quite loudly.

    Not Worth It
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I wanted an affordable and compact workout device to keep in my one bedroom apartment and to use during the miserable Chicago winter. This allowed me a good workout the first couple of times I used it. Now I don’t even break a sweat. Also, the strap around the motion wheel broke and it took months for a new one to be sent. The replacement strap is now about to break. Not a quality product and not a good workout item.

    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
First hat’s off to amazon for great customer service. we first purchased this product in summer 09 i used it sparingly but then my son started to use it. He used it almost everyday for about 20- 40 minutes each session. after a few months it started to have a loud “rubbing” sound which we couldn’t fix. then the right piston failed. i called the company and they said it was past warranty. i called amazon and they were great said they would ship me out a new one asap. we recv’d the new one in a couple days and shipped back the defective one. my son started using it and within 2 weeks the machine created a foul smell when used. then a couple weeks later it started leaking oil from the piston.

this machine is only suited for VERY light use. the concept is great and when it works it’s a great machine. I wished the manufacturer spent a little more money for better pistons it would be a winner then . but 2 failures for 2 machines is unacceptable

I would NOT recommend this product

    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I used it daily for a month and found it good for burning calories. The noise is a little irritating and then the cable broke. I ordered a replacement cabl, installed it myself and three weeks later it broke again. I’m looking for something more durable. This would be a great if the manufacturer would correct the design defects.
