In-Home Boot Camp – great for the over 40!
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I had originally intended to purchase the P90X product and am I so glad I decided on the P90 In-Home Boot Camp instead. The In-Home Boot camp is challenging enough for someone that has been working out on a ‘somewhat’ regular basis and is looking for something new. I wish the tapes didn’t emphasis push ups so much – folks with weak wrists (think carpal tunnel) like myself will have to improvise until the wrists gets stronger. Overall, it gets the heart pumping at whatever level you chose to follow the exercises.

This product is a super workout system. It works well as a first-time workout plan or as a supplemental workout for p90X graduates. I highly reccomend power 90 masters series. It is a tremendous value.

Objective Review of Power 90 – good product, questionable company
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I just finished the Power 90 program in prep to make a go at P90x. If you are considering P90x, take their fit test (on their website) first. Even though I passed (barely), I decided to go with Power 90 since I did need to lose some weight before proceeding with P90x. Overall, Power 90 is not a bad program for the money, although the workouts are repetitive (which actually goes against the philosophy of P90x). Each week you’ll complete 6 days of 35-50 minute workouts, so for a busy professional like me who sometimes works 16 hour days, overnights and weekends, it was workable (note: P90x routines are 75-90 min 6 days a week, and much more difficult to work into a busy schedule)

The circuit training can feel intense as the strength exercises are rapid fire with little to no break in between. Overall, I felt I was lifting under capacity most days since it doesn’t give you a chance to recover and regroup between sets. While I lost weight in the program and toned a little, I definitely did not add muscle mass (actually, I prevented myself from losing too much muscle mass while losing weight).

The cardio training starts off slow with a gradual warmup using power yoga, then sets of interval cardio, followed by a brief break and kickboxing. I found that there was a disproportionate amount of time on the kickboxing moves which were a little less intense than they could be, but a good way to sustain and wind down from the first half of the workout.

They will send you a food plan along with the DVDs, which is not as regimented as the P90x nutrition plan. Most of the concepts included are no mystery such as avoiding fast food, substituting whole grain for processed carbs, 3 small meals and 2 small snacks a day at 3 hour intervals, no food 3 hours before bedtime, etc. In order to succeed in a program like this, diet is essential, and I found that using a system to track your food intake and control portions was key (I used weightwatchers online). In fact, I suspect that most of my result (25 lb loss in 90 days) was from diet rather than the Power 90 exercises.

Many consumers have voiced complaints regarding the company that makes this product such as add-ons when placing orders, difficulties in returning items, poor customer service, etc. Expect to be marketed to aggressively. (e.g., not getting the results you wanted? It must be that you didn’t order the supplements…) Remember the company that makes this program is in it for the money, and they want you to buy the next training program, the supplements, the energy bars and drinks, etc etc.

My major issue with the company is regarding their false claims. Power 90 promises “total body transformation in 90 days” but it is hard to imagine that a product like this that utilizes 30-50 minutes of moderate intensity exercise could truly turn you from plump to ripped in 90 days. Their Ab ripper will not “get you the ripped washboard abs you’ve always wanted” if you are starting off with a bit of a spare tire midsection. There really is no magic to this program, and their “sectional progression” isn’t a miracle. It’s simply good old fashioned exercise, 6 days a week. I’m frankly astounded that they don’t include the usual “results not typical” disclaimer with their “success stories.” There are many who have blogged or posted their before and after photos with Power 90 and P90x, and the results are usually quite modest.

In summary, Power 90 is inexpensive and useful as an exercise regimen if you don’t have a lot of time and/or don’t feel ready for P90x. Just watch out for the company that makes it.

I purchased p90 after realizing I wasn’t in good enough shape to take on p90x. I followed the program, pretty much to the letter, and within 6 weeks I could see my abs and was starting to feel great. I was 226lbs, and in 6 weeks I got down to 205. I also used the recommended supplements. I never completed the full 90 days due to a relocation, but now I am starting it again – confident in the results I will get.

does what it says it will. the only problem i have is there is no robotic arms that come out of the t.v. to force you to do the exercises. I’ve been using this in between jogging and weight training at the gym and its by far the hardest part of my week.

Works, if you want it to.
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I am doing the Power 90 program because my fiance wants to get in better shape before our wedding and her main issue is motivation. That is where I come in, she needs someone to workout with. I prefer free weights (power lifting)with the occasional circuit training but I thought since she is dead set on this it would be good for the both of us. All I can say about it, being in phase 1-2, intensity is all up to you. For a 90-day beginner to intermediate this is a good base to start from, you learn the basics with which you can move on to more focused work.

I came into this being pretty full of myself and found a few spots that were a little sore during the first two weeks. Don’t listen to people who say its just not intense enough…..intensity is up to you. If its easy, add weight, add reps, do slower reps, concentrate on form. This is a ‘tool’ for you to use but the real work comes from you so set goals after you have done a week and gotten adjusted to the movements. Can you only do 15 push-ups, go for 20-25 then move on to push-up bars or do incline push-up (feet on a chair or bench).

Thats all I have to say, great starter if you want it.

    Wonderful Program That Really Works!!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Okay, first off I want to say that I love this program!

    I simply adore it!

You see all these infomercials on TV about these programs that will “get you ripped” in just 6 weeks or something crazy like that, you buy them, and they never work.

That is definitely not the case with the Power 90 program from BeachBody!

    This product actually works!

I don’t know how else to say it.

The only thing about this program is:

If you really want to see true results, you HAVE to commit to the full 90 days!

That’s the key for this whole program.

If you don’t commit, you don’t get those results you see on TV.

If you DO commit, this program WILL change your life, I guarantee it.

As many of you know, BeachBody offers a very wide variety of workout programs such as: Power 90, P90X, ChaLEAN, Insanity, etc.

Power 90 is what I suggest as the foundation for all of those other programs.

This program will be pretty intense for someone who is out of shape when they start it (like I was), but after the first 7 or 8 days, your body will get used to the new routine and you will begin to feel and SEE a change in yourself.

Some things I noticed after the first week or so are: I was “skinnier”, I had more energy throughout the day, I was waking up earlier without having to be “dragged” out of bed, I didn’t get winded as easily doing everyday activities, I even noticed a slight improvement in my skin!

    How awesome is that?!

I recommend this program to ANYONE who wants to get started on the body of their dreams.

It WILL work, as long as you commit.

    Repetitive but effective
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I purchased P90 almost 1 month ago and after 2 weeks of using the exericse band that was provided for the circuit segment – sustained a self-diagnosed repetitive motion shoulder injury. I’ve been working out for 20 years and am confident in my form and ability so it was kind of a surprise when this happened. I switched to free weights thinking that the band was too much but it was a little late. Now I’m just doing the cardio segments. The one thing that I have been disappointed in is that there isn’t any difference between the moves in level 1-2 and level 3-4 – they’re just faster in level 3-4. I’m concerned that I’m working the exact same muscles EVERY SINGLE WORKOUT. I’m determined to get results so I’m not going to quit but just wanted to make other people aware.

Good way to get in shape
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have to agree with previous reviewers. It is what you put into it. I have done well with these DVD’s, although not as well as if I was more strict on my diet. I also miss a workout every now and then. I think that these DVD’s work so well because I burn 500 calories with each workout. If I workout 6 days a week, that’s about 3000 calories. Initially I lost weight, but I think I lost less than I would’ve because I was putting on some upper body muscle. I definitely feel better and look better and have lost inches off my waist.

Only slight negative is that the “sculpting” is not anaerobic. In fact, I’ve used a heart rate monitor and find that I actually get my heart rate up more with the sculpting workout. Tony Horton even jokes on one of the DVD’s “hey, you’re sweating and this isn’t even cardio.” Like you’re not supposed to sweat lifting weights? The sculpting workout uses dumbbells or bands, which means your lower body doesn’t get as good a workout. Doing endless lunges and body-weight squats gets old and you don’t get the same burn in your leg muscles as you can with the upper body doing pushups and dumbbell exercises. I also find that with the pushups my cardio vascular system tires out faster than my muscles. I think that wouldn’t happen as much with bench press using heavy enough weight to tire out the muscles faster. So, I’m going to try substituting weighted squats for the body weight ones and change up some of the upper body exercises occasionally with bench and barbell lifting. I realize not everybody has the equipment at home to do this and the company doesn’t really want to encourage people to mess with a formula that works. However, if you get into P90X you will be using “muscle confusion” which is nothing more than using different exercises, different weights, etc. for the same muscles.

I plan on doing P90X eventually, but I think that it’s better to start with this Power 90, because P90X is supposed to be “extreme” and intended for people who are already in good shape. It’s supposed to include a lot of chin-ups which would be hard for an over-weight person.

Peronality-wise, Tony Horton is great. So many workout dvd’s are mostly geared towards the female crowd. Tony’s workouts are good for everybody. And you can’t argue with the great results people are getting.

bought this after seeing the P90X program on TV and researching it was recommened that beginners or folks out of shape should do the power 90 program first.

I took the advice and got the Power 90 program.

Tony is a great trainer and the first few times you are really tired, but you get used to the program after a couple weeks and that is when you can really push it. If you don’t push yourself then you will not see results as fast.

I have just completed 45 days and I went from being 6’1″ and 235 (obese) to a built (gained a lot of upper body muscle) 215 and went from a large 38 pant size (really should have been 40) to a 35. I am pumped and working out is fun again! I am now moving on to the series 3-4 of the workout and when I finish the 90 days I am ordering P90X to get in even better shape!

The band that comes with the kit si good for starting out, but I went and got the next step up band (heavy) to increase the resistance for some of the work outs. Eventually I will get the adjustable dumb bells to speed up things and allow quick change in weight depending on the workout, but that is later.

If you are out of shape and over weight you gotta try this out!

    No nonsense program
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I had bought this because I wanted to do the P90x system but thought that I wasn’t in good enough shape to start it. This system consists of 3 circuits each about 30 min in length. It’s challenging to go through any of the three circuits without a break or doing an alternative, easier version of the exercises, but I think that anyone could jump in and start. I’ve been in it three weeks and have lost three inches in the waist and also dropped about 7 pounds. What’s better is to see my progress within the exercises: I’m doing more pushups, situps, etc.

    Great program!

  14. E. Maranz on Mon, 25th Jan 2010 3:49 pm

    Good for beginners
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I am not new to working out. I have done Slim in 6, Slim Series, Turbo Jam, 3 weeks of Power 90X (gave up) and Jillian Michael’s DVDs. I was looking for something light to do for a few months. I liked P90X and I like Tony but I felt that I just wasn’t ready for it. So I decided to try P90. Maybe it was too easy for me. I got bored with the cardio workout right away and started doing other cardio DVDs on cardio days….Turbo Jam or if I was short on time, Jillian Michael’s kickboxing. When I moved onto Sculpt 3/4 I liked it much better and felt that I was getting a good workout. I started to see my arms and chest getting toned from all those pushups! However, I think that 3 months of doing the same thing is boring…at least for me. I started to dread the sculpt days and only looked fwd to my cardio days when I did Turbo Jam. I made it to the last week and decided to move on to my next workout. I think P90 is good for beginners…however you should also consider trying Slim in 6…it is also designed for beginners and weight loss but it’s only 6 weeks. You also do the same workout every day for 6 weeks but at least it’s not 3 months!

In Conclusion: I like Toni, I think he’s a great instructor and yes, I even like his corny jokes. His exercises are the real deal and you will feel them and get results. If you are just starting to workout, then this will be a good one to start with. And if you follow a healthy diet and commit to the workouts, you will see results. You may get bored but that may be a small price to pay. If you are not a beginner then it may not be challenging enough for me and you may be bored sooner. It’s worth a shot though.

    Very Effective
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have stayed in fairly good shape for most of my life. That was until about 3 years ago. With slower metabolism and the same bad eating habits, I quickly began to gain weight. At 33, I was about 25 pounds overweight and felt terrible. My feet and joints hurt. I was constantly tired. I lost my flexibility and stamina. Honestly, I felt OLD. I just figured this was part of aging and that there was nothing I could about it.

Prior to starting Power 90, I had been eating better, exercising, and losing a few pounds. Then a friend who knew this recommended Power 90. I figured it was worth a try.

Level 1-2 was not aerobically hard, but I could tell my core strength and flexibility were severely lacking. Because I had been neglecting certain muscle groups, I initially gained about 5 pounds. It didn’t take long before I was ready to quickly move to 3-4. Initially, this was tough. However, around day 45, it began to seem pretty easy. To keep from getting bored, I made a few adjustments. Hand weights during cardio. Variations with the speed (slow sets, fast sets, fast positives and slow negatives, etc.) and angle of sculpting workouts. Heavier weights. Greater intensity during sweating workout. Not letting my feet touch the grounds on kicks. These changes have kept the workouts interesting and difficult.

Around day 60, I am now more ripped than I have ever been. Not as ripped as Tony on the P90x advertisement, but more like he was on the DVD case for Power 90.

At a recent gathering of high school and college friends, several people commented about how young and healthy I looked. And the best part is that I feel GREAT – like I did 15 years ago, if not better! My feet and joints don’t hurt any more. I am now full of energy. My stamina and flexibility have greatly increased.

For anyone that is serious about getting in shape, this is a great place to start. Look at Beachbody’s eating guide as well. This gives some excellent guidelines that will help maximize your results. After day 90, it’s on to P90x! Let me know if you have any question.

I bought this product and received it promptly just as advertised. You must do the work to see results, but it’s very motivating and fun to do! Tony makes this workout intense, but you’ll find yourself wanting to keep doing it.

You dont have to workout for hours to see results. If you commit to this program, you’ll see things start to tighten and you’ll find yourself with more energy and feeling better about yourself. This program is perfect for those who dont have much time to spare.

This is what you really get!
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I’m about 3 weeks into the program. It is a great starter program if you are a couch potato and need to get off the sofa. But it is not as comprehensive as I expected. Here is what you really get…

2 DVD, an exercise band, and suggested menu and training calander. I broke the exercise band on the first workout. The handle snapped and it really hurt. I’m 6″3, so it was probably due to the distance the band had to stretch, but I’ve been using hand weights and I think they work better. The offer better range of resistance. The bands get harder as the stretch, so the first few inches are easy.

You use the first DVD for the first half of the program, and the second DVD for the second half. What I was disappointed with is that each half is only two workouts. So after the first week, it a little monotonous alternating between only two workouts. I probably should have gotten P90x, but didn’t because of my sedintary lifestyle. But alternating between 2 workouts for 45 days is a little tendious. Both workouts are about 30 minutes, but that includes stretching, breaks, and cool down periods. While a 20 minute workout may be just right if you are a couch potato, I fell that I get a better cardio workout by spending 30 minutes on an eliptical machine. I do break a sweat doing the Power 90 Cardio I, but since its only 20 minutes, I’m not as drenched as on an eplitical. The Abs program is three minutes worth of ab exercises following the Cardio DVD, and the power yoga is also part of cardio. The program makes it seem like they are additional workouts, but that are not really. P90x looks like it has more workouts and I think more variety is helpful to stay committed to the program. I’m already bored with these two workouts.

Tony is good and not nearly as cheesy as some trainers I’ve seen. I just wish the program was more comprehensive. Hopefully moving to stage 2 will be envigorating. I can’t comment on the second half of the program yet. For the most part, I do feel and look a little better, but I doubt I’m going to get the kind of results seen on the website and marketing materials only doing 20 minutes a day of moderate exercise.

If you’re obses however, this is a nice start.

Finally, I’d buy this direct from [...]. I paid $[...] with shipping, so I’m not sure why its a lot more on Amazon. A third party reseller is probably jacking up the price. Plus by purchasing through [...], I now get weekly marking emails. While they do push supplements, they also include interesting articles about weightloss and health (such as the 411 on artificial sweeteners, which alcohols to avoid, making better eat-out choices, specifically what to order at national chain restaurants if you have to eat out, etc).

    Hope this helps someone.

My wife and I have been using this product for a week. It is amazing. It makes you sweat and leaves you sore the next day. The exercises are well explained and go at your own pace is really emphasized. At first we were going to get p90x but after reading many reviews that power 90 was the way to start. I would recommended using free weights rather then the power bands. The power bands seem to get wrapped up in your shirt.

Tony’s sense of humor does get a little annoying and a little dry.

Tony Horton’s Power 90 In-Home Boot Camp program is a great way to get in shape. I’m currently two-thirds the way through the 90-day program and it has done wonders for me.

The level 1-2 workouts were great at the beginning since I had not been actively exercising prior to starting this program. Within 4 weeks I felt ready to move up to the level 3-4 workouts which were more challenging.

This program is perfect for anyone who wants to prepare for P90X but does not feel they are in adequate shape for such a rigourous and demanding program. After completing Power 90 you should have the strength and endurance to give P90X a go.

I do want to point out that the price this vendor is charging for this set at the time I write this review is a full eighty dollars higher than the everyday price that Beachbody (the producer of Power 90) charges for the identical package. Beware!

I love P90 and Tony Horton! He put together an awesome program for those of us who have been away from exercise for some time. Sure its hard. Sure you are sore. Sure you can’t keep up with him at first. But that is all part of learning and growing. Your body is shocked at the fact you are moving it and asking it to do things it hasn’t done in a long time or ever before. I know I work in Physical Rehab. I like his comment in the booklet that comes with the DVDs, you can’t intellectualize the whole thing, just do the work out! I think all the people here who complain that it is too hard or that they are not seeing results aren’t really immersing themselves into the whole program and change of lifestyle. You have to be honest with yourself: Are you REALLY putting your all into it? Do you really want it? I know I was really out of shape after breaking my back and neck so you cannot be worse off than me! I have to modify the moves but I still get thru the workouts. Hang in there, you are worth it and so is your health. I would recommend this (and have) to anyone wanting to whip themselves back into shape and improve their overall health. I am going to move on to P90X and P90X+. Tony Horton saved my life (literally)! BUY THIS PROGRAM IF YOU ARE EVEN CONSIDERING IT!

So I bought this because P90X was too tough for me. I tried really hard. So I wanted to get started a little slower with these. Let me tell you that these are not any slower….well they are, but it’s still a tough workout. As many other reviewers said here and on the web it is a little boring, but I honestly didn’t notice as much when I was working out because I was concentrating on my form and technique. They’re only boring if you just sit there and watch them, which I do before hand to see what I’m getting into. I’ve done my 2nd day tonight which is Cardio and it’s pretty tough. I’m sticking with it and if you need a good workout you should too!!

    Major Ordering Problems
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I’ve read all the reviews and believe this is a good product, but somewhere within Amazons ordering/shipping system they have a systemic problem.

I order this product back in December, and the shipping seemed to work fine because I received a product fairly quickly. But not the product I ordered. They sent me P90X+, not the Boot Camp! I was totally not ready for +.

Strangely though, Amazon’s customer service would not process a replacement product, they would only offer a refund only after I returned the product. The only guidance the customer service rep gave was that “I could order the product again if I wanted to at my own risk or wait for the refund and the reorder”.

I trusted Amazon enough to order the product AGAIN before the refund was processed. I assumed shipping the wrong product was a fluke. My mistake, the second order was exactly the same as the first order!! They shipped P90X+ AGAIN! The invoice and shipping labels all say Power 90 Boot camp, but when I open the box there were only P90X+ DVDs. I’m done with Amazon.

    P90 – Awesome workout package
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I started the P90 Beachbody workout program Christmas Eve 2009. I’ve just completed Day 21 and now I’m definitely a believer. In fact, a surprising thing occured in my household – everyone in my house has now started the program. The routines appear simple and easy, however my body was really sore the first week. Now I’m seeing and feeling positive changes in my body and energy levels.

I am slowly working on cleaning my diet – for example I no longer drink sodas of any kind and have drastically cut back on sugar consumption. That coupled with increased water, protein and fiber intake probably amplifies the effects I’m seeing and feeling with my body.

I will definitely continue and complete this program. I am already looking into P90X for when I’ve completed this program.

    Enjoy…

    Great workout

These workouts are quick, fun, and effective. Just like any workout, you get out of it what you put into it. This is not the magic video that is going to get you ripped, but it can show you the way. My wife doen’t like it because she thinks Tony is corny, I don’t think he is that bad. I did give up my parking spot in the garage to do the work outs because we live in a condo and have neighbors below us. There is some jumping around.

The diet works well too, and it is pretty tasty. It takes some preparation the night before in order to take a healthy lunch to work. I did fall off the wagon during the holidays but I am starting back up.
